For this charming Chinese cottage located on the outskirts of Beijing, in a quaint town called Huairo near the Great Wall of China, I undertook a renovation project for some friends. The house, an old and abandoned traditional structure, had cultural value. My goal was to preserve its original essence while updating it for modern living.
I focused on retaining the core architectural elements, such as the distinctive ceiling structure and key features of the façade, which give the home its unique character. Enhancements included adding proper insulation to improve comfort and energy efficiency. We also introduced modern amenities, like a newly designed bathroom and a mini chef’s kitchen, ensuring functionality without compromising on style.
Outside, we created a delightful BBQ area complete with a fireplace, perfect for entertaining and enjoying the picturesque surroundings. This renovation not only revitalized a piece of history but also transformed it into a welcoming and practical home that respects its past while embracing the present.
